Jeffery Williams, better known by the stage name J Bwoi, is a Christian rapper,
producer and performer from Atlanta, Georgia. J Bwoi has lived in a religious,
musical environment since he was a child, starting out in his father’s church.
As a pastor, his father volunteered the help of a young Williams and his brother to
play in the church’s band. Here, is where he found his love and passion for music.
After a member of his church introduced him to the music software Fruity Loops
(now FL Studio), Williams began to make his own beats and ultimately his own
music. He started rapping as an act of rebellion, but soon realized that it was
something that he enjoyed and was also good at. He began to make a name for
himself in middle school, handing out music to friends and getting opinions of
what the people did and didn’t like. While figuring out his own unique sound,
Williams began to take gigs at different churches with his brother to earn money.
Eventually, he found a sound that worked for him and went with it. He also found
his name. An urban twist on the word “boy” and J for Jeffery added a name to his
inimitable sound. J Bwoi’s drive and dedication to his music has continued and
strengthened throughout the years, never stopping or slowing down. His genre
of Christian rap can be described as giving the feeling of being in the club on
Saturday night and in church on Sunday morning at the same time.
The praise party style puts a religious twist on today’s Atlanta style of rap music
and sets his sound to be different from others in the same category. His biggest
inspiration is his three-month-old daughter, whom he says pushes him to be the
best that he can be. While others have the goal of making lots of money, Williams
has that desire and much more. His music is geared towards reviving the youth
and kids that need an outlet, but is also for anyone and everyone that wants to
connect and see God more through music. His ultimate objective is to reach souls
with his sound.
“There’s nothing wrong with being a Christian. You don’t have to conform to the
religious norms, just enjoy life and live the way God intended. Love God first,
everything else will follow.”
