The Korean Martial
Arts Festival….
THE Event of
2018… and Every
Other Year
LIVING IN ASIA FOR 18 YEARS AND HAVING CON-
NECTIONS IN EUROPE AND NORTH AMERICA, I
HEAR ABOUT ALMOST EVERY SINGLE EVENT THAT
HITS THE GLOBAL ARENA. IT ALSO BECOMES “NOI-
SE” AFTER A WHILE AND GETS TO THE POINT WHE-
RE I’M TUNING MANY OUT. IT TAKES SOMETHING
SPECIAL OR UNIQUE TO GRAB MY ATTENTION.
I FIRST HEARD OF MASTER THOMAS GORDAN’S
KOREAN MARTIAL ARTS FESTIVAL A NUMBER OF
YEARS AGO WHEN MY TEUK GONG MOO SOOL
BROTHER, MASTER STEVE KINCADE, TOLD ME
ABOUT AN EVENT HE WAS TEACHING AT. WHAT
ATTRACTED ME, ASIDE FROM TEUK GONG MOO SOOL GETTING SOME CHANCE TO
BE SHOWN, IS SOME OF THE NAMES ATTACHED TO THE EVENT. NAMES LIKE GRAND-
MASTER RUDY TIMMERMAN AND GRANDMASTER KEN MACKENZIE WERE HARD TO
IGNORE.
I followed along in the media as most of us do and noticed year after year it kept
returning year after year after year. Instead of shrinking it just kept getting larger.
It’s simple logic to arrive at the conclusion the host was doing something right.
When I heard that it was being held for the 12th time I knew it was worth my
undivided attention.
The 12th Korean Martial Art Festival was held April 20-22 at Warrior Hall on 201
Stillwell Blvd. in Crestview, and also at Gordon Martial Arts at 130 West Oakdale Ave.
in Crestview, Florida.
