SHIN KAMAE. In the study of Tai Kamae we learn to
develop techniques in a right way, thus through prac-
tice we learn to carry them out without stopping to
think or to look at our bodies to repeat it. Once this
happens, we get to a higher level of knowledge of Ka-
maes within Shin Kamae.
2. Shin Kamae (Mental Guard) it is tactic thinking,
an effective way to apply already learnt techniques in
opened fight situations. It consists on knowing how
to choose the right guard at the right time, and this
guard should go beyond a physical guard and influ-
ence the opponent’s mind. KAMAITE DACHI (battle
position). Technically, the body must be relaxed and
in lateral position facing the opponent. The feet must
be separated to the width of the shoulders. The back
foot should rest on the metatarsus. All these allows
us to be ready to start as fast and strong as possible
and the knees go slightly bend. The mass of the body
should be distributed on both legs. The arms should
be relaxed, the fist under the eyes and the shoulders
in advanced covering the jaw while the back fist cov-
ers the other side of the jaw; the elbows should block
to the inside covering the ribs in both sides.
3. Kokoro Kamae (spiritual guard)
