He did important ad work for BOHN after his stint in the army. The BOHN Aluminum and Brass Corporation advertisements were the most modern and far thinking the American public had ever seen.
Later, during the 1950s as his workload and commissions declined, Radebaugh came up with
the brilliant idea to create a newspaper comic strip that would showcase a myriad of futuristic concepts. The strip called ‘Closer Than We Think’ was a huge hit across the country and was enjoyed by many. Some of these images included giant vegetables and corporate farming, flying cars, home computers, space stations, cell phones, time machines, robot housemaids, solar power and underwater travel. Unfortunately, the strip’s syndication ended in 1963 because its creator became too ill to continue.
Radebaugh, who was in declining health and wealth, died in 1974 to little fanfare. The man who brought so many visions of the future was gone without many noticing.
I would encourage you to view the award-winning 2019 documentary ‘Closer Than We Think’ which discusses Radebaugh’s life, ideas and ideals and helps pay him some of the honor that he so greatly deserves.
