MAXI SCOOTER 250 CC (1998)
By 1998, scooters of various sizes were preferred over any other form of two-wheeled vehicles for short to medium-range travel. I tried to design a comfortable maxi-scooter, with a coherent bodywork in terms of design, two large seats with deep footrests in the footboard and places for two helmets to be stored.
It was too radical an innovation for a large company like Piaggio, and so the project was not followed up. Today, however, the interest in similar vehicles has definitely “reawakened”, and not only in Italy. In Japan, for example, some three-wheelers are used for urban
transport of foodstuffs, or servicing small entrepreneurs and merchants.
Other innovations for the time were disc brakes on both wheels and the possibility of mounting a canopy for two people, perfectly integrated into the design of the scooter. Furthermore, by widening the rear part, the structure could accommodate two wheels, to create a “three-wheeler” conceptually similar to the Urbano. The Maxi Scooter eventually only reached the Chinese domestic market.
