THIS PAGE: In the first months after
World War II, when development
of the new cars was being finalised,
the first tentative moves into three-
dimensional modelling took place
with quarter-scale models such as this
one, which was used to develop the

frontal styling of the Bentley Mark VI
standard steel saloon. Additionally,
although coachbuilders responsible
for coachbuilt bodies determined the
styling of their own coachwork, their
designs were expected to adhere to
the approved relationship of radiator
shell, headlamps, centre-lamp and
horn grilles, to be positioned as shown.
Bill Allen (‘Aln’) recalled to the author
that he made this and other models
using ‘Plasticene’ to shape the panel
surfaces. There was a considerable
element of sheer ingenuity involved,
with limited funding.
