Green hydrogen
Hydrogen is the most abundant chemical element in the universe. It is one of the most important gases used in various industries such as aerospace, fertilizers, transport, metals, chemicals, and petrochemicals.
In industrial uses, the biggest source of demand is for ammonia production followed by use in production of methanol.
The global hydrogen generation market was valued at $135.94bn in 2021, and is expected to grow to $219.2bn by 2030, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 5.4% from 2021 to 2030.
Global hydrogen demand was reported at around 73m MT in 2020 while production in 2020 was recorded at 87m MT.
Amidst global push for decarbonisation and reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, hydrogen is being considered as a carbon free source of energy to expand its use to marine vessels as a fuel, to industrial plants as feedstock, and for heating and power generation.
