  Green Ammonia Applications
 3 Use in power generation
o The scarcity of economically feasible options to decarbonize the existing thermal power fleet, which includes coal fired and natural gas fired power plants, has led the power industry to consider using hydrogen and ammonia to decarbonize the sector. As the combustion of ammonia releases no carbon emissions, the co-firing of ammonia in the existing fleet of coal-fired power plants implies a reduction in emissions.
o The process is carried out by introducing pulverized coal into the burner along with a supply of air. Ammonia is then evaporated and introduced into the burner as a pure gas stream and mixed around for co-firing.
o Although ammonia co-firing is currently uncompetitive, even with a carbon price, the prospect of rapidly falling costs combined with supportive policies will lower the levelized cost of electricity (LCOE) with time.
