            I hope that you enjoyed reading this book and that you found it
            interesting and informative.


               Planning for retirement is more difficult for today’s investors
            than it was for previous  generations.  Because  of  longer  life

            expectancies, people retiring may live in retirement for 20, 30,
            even 40 years.


               Additionally, many of the financial pillars supporting retirees
            in  previous  generations  have  either  disappeared  altogether

            or are slowly going away. Company pension plans are quickly
            becoming a thing of the past. Even retirees who are fortunate

            enough to have a company pension plan face the specter of
            having the  promised  benefits cut back.  Company-provided

            medical benefits are  becoming less and  less common,  and
            today’s retirees must shoulder all or part of the costs of medical

            care over what will almost certainly be a longer life than their
            parents or grandparents had.


               The combination  of longer  life expectancies  and  the  loss
            of some traditional sources of financial support in retirement

            mean that present-day retirees must accumulate a significant
            financial nest egg to fund their retirement. In order to accumulate

            that money, most people must invest in a way that will provide
