Sequential Batch Reactors (SBR)
SBR Sequence cont.
An SBR treatment Batch Sequence includes:
Fill and Mixing – This is the first phase of a batch or cycle. The SBR Tank fills with
influent wastewater.
When the Fill phase starts, the SBR Tank is not empty. It contains several feet of
settled biomass awaiting to be fed. The Fill and Mixing phases allow pretreated
wastewater to enter and fill the SBR tank, comingle with the mixed liquor. There is
no aeration applied at this time.
React (or Aeration) – Once the SBR Tank is filled with influent wastewater, aeration
is turned on. Aeration allows the microorganisms to respire (or breathe) while
consuming the organic content of the wastewater.
