OPPORTUNISTIC FUNGAL INFECTIONS Pigmented hyphae or yeastlike cells in phaeohyphomycosis. A
mat of hyphae in an aggregate of inflammatory cells from the skin of a cat. While no pigment was observed
on cytology, fungal melanin was noted on histopathology, consistent with a diagnosis of phaeohyphomycosis
(50× objective).
