               Folic Acid Antagonists

               Methotrexate is a folic acid antagonist that binds to dihydrofolate
               reductase and blocks the synthesis of tetrahydrofolate, inhibiting
               the synthesis of thymidine and purine nucleotides. As a result, it
               can suppress antibody formation. Its side effects are similar to those

               caused by cyclophosphamide. It is used for the treatment of
               rheumatoid arthritis in humans.
