                                                       National veterinary services preserve and
                                                     develop animal resources and thus contribute to
                                                     reducing poverty and hunger worldwide through
                                                     improving rural livelihoods and human nutrition
                                                     through greater access to animal protein. Their
                                                     additional impact on global health security fur-
                                                     ther safeguards the planet. For these compelling
                                                     reasons, supporting the livestock sector through
                                                     sustainable  investments in national animal
                                                     health systems and their laboratory function,
                                                     based on international standards, protects and
                                                     develops all communities, from global to local
                                                     levels. The OIE is working each day to protect
                                                     the health of animals, and in doing so, protect-
                                                     ing our future.
