NICOLA GIBSON
LONDON FILM SCHOOL DOCUMENTARY TUTOR
Nicola worked at the BBC for 12 years as a Producer/Director on primetime series and
programme strands in BBC Arts, Specialist Factual and Documentaries and as successful
Development Producer. Her work has been nominated for a Grierson Documentary Award,
a Royal Television Award and the highly acclaimed series ‘My Life As A Child’, won at five International Input
Documentary Festivals.
Her approach in all her work comes from her belief that documentary is ‘life shared on film’ and after leaving the
BBC she worked in the independent sector for Ridley Scott Associates and the Garden. She then set up her own
media company which made short films, radio documentaries and most recently creating animated documentaries.
She is also an experienced and qualified documentary lecturer in Higher Education and a Fellow of the Higher
Education Authority. She taught documentary making at City University for 7 years and has also been a Visiting
Lecturer at the University of London Goldsmiths and Birkbeck.
LUCY KAYE
Lucy Kaye is an award- winning documentary filmmaker based in London. With a
background in Anthropology, she graduated from the National Film and Television school in
2009. She has worked for the BBC, Channel 4, Vice, The Guardian with subjects ranging
from PTSD to Horse Whispering. Her First Cut film for Ch4 received critical acclaim and
she was recently awarded the prestigious Pears Short Film Award for her film Memory Songs. Her passion lie’s
in making creative, character-driven films that can have a universal appeal. She is currently a visiting lecturer at
London Film School and a PhD by Practise candidate on the joint LFS/University of Exeter programme.
