A COMMITMENT TO JUSTICE FOR VICTIMS

Child abuse investigations are conducted by the Violent Crimes Unit. This group of 15 full-time
detectives are dedicated to investigate a variety of violent crimes, including child abuse. Child
abuse crimes may include sexual abuse, serious physical injury, drug exposure or child pornography. 2,400
While some child abuse cases are investigated by patrol deputies, more severe cases are handled by
detectives. While our goal is to expedite justice for victims, the nature of these cases are difficult and
complex. A typical investigation can take 6 - 18 months from initial report to case closure. IN 2017
