I could go on and on about the ENTITY that is the UDMB, however I’ve always found that you are the product of the PEOPLE that you surround yourself with. Yes, you shape your own destiny, however the people around you help inspire you, and teach you lessons that you might not have been able to teach yourself. I am so thankful to have so many people in my life that have helped make me the man that I am today.
To DelPit 2019: I have been a part of 9 different front ensembles, and it has NEVER been so hard as it has been now for me to be able to say goodbye to a section. We all pull from each other’s energy, and it has made for a section that has brought me so many incredible memories. From all of our trips to CR, to playing Jackbox in South Academy, you have all truly made me feel like this section is my family. I am forever thankful for each and every one of you. Keep this energy going into next year, because this pit is poised to do some amazing things with you all as a part of it. I can’t wait to see how hard you guys will throw down next year. Somehow I lucked out with having you all in my final season. I don’t know how, but I did. Thank you all SO MUCH for filling this GrossOldMan’s heart more than it ever has been.
To the DelPit Rookies (Ben, Alex, Ilene, Teddy, Nathan, Nick, Tyler, Vince): It’s always so heartening to see a rookie class come in that’s all so incredibly talented and driven to become the best versions of themselves. You all have such different personalities that helped make the group better in their own unique way. I am so excited to see how you all grow over the next three years, and where you take the pit. I am so very confident that you all are going to make some amazing things happen in it.
To the DelPit Seniors (Greene, Aeon, Kevin): We made it, y’all. Not gonna lie, after freshman year, I wasn’t sure if I was actually going to get to perform alongside you all. I was glad to be on the sound system, yes, but it just felt like something was MISSING. There was this odd disconnect I felt by not getting to be truly on the field with you guys. You guys helped eliminate that somewhat though, by being incredibly welcoming and friendly. Over the past four years, you have all grown into such essential gears in the machine. Each one of you stepped up at some point and took charge in SOME way and proved yourselves to be true role models in this front ensemble. There is no group of people I would have rather shared the keyboards with one last time.
To Quinn: You are so unabashedly yourself, and I mean that in the best way possible. You’ve got a heart of gold, and it inspires me to always work every day to be a better person to the people in my life that I care about. I know we’ve had our differences, but it genuinely has been a pleasure sharing the field with you for the past three years.
To Nathan: LAMP! Dude you are such a hard worker its insane. I always see you shedding notes and just trying to find ways to improve yourself as a performer. You are going to do some INCREDIBLE things in the marching band world man. I can’t wait to hype it up! Also, I could have been basically dead going through Baba O’Reilly and you ALWAYS got me energized when we got to H. You exude performance energy whenever you play, and it is SO FUN TO WATCH!!! Beyond that though, you’ve proven to be such a great friend. You’ve helped me out in so many ways its insane. Between the amount of times we’ve worked through C of Lost in Space (*shudders*), to the late night talk we had walking to the POD that one time, thank you for everything man. I am so thankful to know you.
To Eric: Man, I know we’ve talked about it before, but I need you to know how truly proud I am of you. The amount of growth I saw you undergo over the course of the past year is, to be real, ridiculous. You matured in a huge way, and became a person that I can truly say I enjoy being
