an Alto dot in my sophomore year, Julia Turk, my Tento buddy, Darshan Pathak, my Eagles buddy (even though they suck right now), and so many other people that I could not possibly name everyone in my already 6 pages not doubled space document. I love everyone in this band, and I will be back next year for alumni game, and I already can’t wait to see what fantastic work everyone does.
Farewell to the highlight of my last four years.

Dear UDMB Family,
I may not remember the specifics, but I will always remember how it made me feel.
Like magic, like the queen of the world, like a small piece of something huge and amazing, like a dream come true, like there is no better way to spend my time, like I wouldn’t be who I am without it.
My favorite moment in the UDMB was in 2018 when we performed Empire for the first time during halftime. The passion behind the performance rocked me. It was that perfect moment of clarity that I had always been searching for and was able to grasp for just a moment.
I got emotional at Senior GameTM when I realized I had set up Lorraine, my beautiful ladder, for the final time. She made me feel invincible- I loved driving her with Keith and then to Keith. She is a symbol of everything the UDMB means to me.
To those of you with more years left:
Next year when your alarm goes off before the sun for band camp the best way to start the day is to cheer (YAY BAND CAMP WOO), it is a tried and true Val-ismTM
Remember that band is first and foremost for family and for fun and secondarily to wow an audience. Your love for one another will come across on the field and that will wow the audience more than anything else.
Sometimes band really sucks or life gets overwhelming and that is okay. Lean on your family, we’ve got you.
The key to making family in the UDMB is to ask people how they are, everyone wants to be your friend, all you have to do is put yourself out there (intimidating, I hear you) except there is no risk of rejection, I promise you’ll be met with kindness and friendship.
I am really excited to see the love you put into our family next year and the magic you light up the field with; though I already know I’ll be so proud. I already am so proud.
At Senior GameTM all I felt was complete happiness and gratefulness to have called the UDMB home for the past 4 years. It was beautiful to share in such mutual appreciation and bittersweet joy
