To the entire UDMB...
I promise – this is one of the greatest programs to be a part of at UD. You will meet so many amazing people from so many walks of life. Your time here will go by so fast – I am still in denial that my time in the UDMB is over.
Most people tell you to treasure every moment, but let’s be honest... some moments suck.
Some rehearsals are hot, some game days are wet, sometimes you’re just not in the mood, and that’s ok. I challenge you to treasure the important moments. Find a few things that you love about being in the UDMB and savor those memories. Those are the ones you will cherish the most when your time in the band is almost done.
To Melloware 2019...
Jack Malone – Jack, my day one, number one! Thank you for being the only other OG member of the mellophone section. Four years later, I can’t imagine having anyone else by my side. Thank you for all of the wonderful memories and for your endless weoni. When we first met, you were a music education major, and now you are graduating with a music management degree and a passion for psychology. I should have known from freshman year that you would go on to be a great counselor because your contagious enthusiasm, compassion, and patience are hallmarks of your personality. Wherever you end up in life, always know that I’m just a phone call or text message away. Always tell Deborah she is wrong, and please keep in touch. Love & Weoni
Kara Anderson – Wow – am I glad you decided to join the mellophone section sophomore year! Since then I have grown closer to you and watched you continue to excel academically and make a difference in the community, all while having fun. Thank you for always making me smile with your stories from the farm – RIP Miss Chorizo. Congrats with all of your success with the UDance Candy Gram fundraiser; it definitely brought joy to everyone involved on game day. Good luck with all your grad school interviews; any animal would be lucky to have you as a vet, and I’m so lucky to have you as a friend.
Scott Benton – SCOOT! Thank you for laughing at my jokes when no one else does – I really appreciate it. I am so fortunate that you decided to spend your senior year in the mellophone section. Thank you for your patience with me on the field. You always knew how to give feedback in a kind and constructive manner. Don’t be a stranger this spring semester. Good luck with everything after graduation!
Haley Will – Thanks to you, I can officially say I went to Urgent Care during band camp! Thanks for being the fun aunt of the mello section and for being our killer soloist. I loved learning about your family history and the exciting Lieberman Bookstore scandals (RIP). I hope you finally graduate this year, but no matter what, you will always be my go-to weather girl.
Juniors (Salena Iapeno and Josh Pompeo) – Josh, thank you for coming back for my senior year! You always bring a lighthearted spirit and strong sense of adventure to the mello section. Thank you for always making me laugh. Salena, thank you for your commitment to this program. As a transfer student coming from another great band program, I’m glad I could help make UD home for you.
