after your freshman year here. Look at all you’ve done now. FRHSD represent, baby. I wish even
more success for you in your future.
My Rookie Buddies: To all five of you: Cami, Hannah, Katrina, Cally, and Rae - I hope you find
your thing. For some of you, it will be band. For others, it won’t be. Always remember to follow your
passion and be unapologetically yourself. Take that risk and go for it. I’m sorry that we weren't all
able to be as close as I’d like us to have been. Having five children as a single mother is a lot. Just
know that I am always one text or call away if you need to get away from the stress or pressure of
normal college life and I’m here for you.
Heidi Sarver: I wonder if you will see this. If you do, I just have to say that I owe a lot of my journey
to you. Your inspirational talks at DMA changed me for the better. I learned that I wanted to make
band special for as many people as I could. I wanted to be that person that people see when they
close their eyes and think back to the beginning. Because of DMA, from then on, I never wanted to
stop reaching higher. I use your starred thoughts every day throughout my life. “Accept it, change it,
bitch and moan” - runs through my head every day. I don’t have the right words to thank you for
being an amazing, inspirational and challenging director. When I am older, I will close my eyes and
think of my directors. I will think of you. Thank you.
Jose Maunez: Thank you for making band a special place in high school. I truly don’t think I would
have made it this far in my journey if it wasn’t for you. You helped me find my place and gave me the
opportunity of a lifetime being drum major. I often think back to all the good times from that band
room and how you were the center of it all. You had faith in me that I truly needed to find, and
pushed me where I didn’t think I could go. Don’t doubt for a second that you’re doing amazing
things at Manalapan, and giving people memories, knowledge, and life-lessons that will last forever.
I don’t have the right words to thank you, but know that I am grateful.
Final Thoughts...
A sincere thank you to everyone who has been a part of my journey along the way. There are
plenty of people that I did not thank, and for a reason. If I could, I would thank every person that has
given me any time of their day while in this band. With some of you, I have had only one interaction
that has stuck with me. There are many people that have come and gone in this band that I have only
gotten to smile at around campus. I wish there was more time to get to know each unique person that
I have marched with. I see other bands out there and I know that ours is like no other. We have
something special here. To those not quite done yet, cherish every moment. It truly does fly by. Make
the most of what you have, and be the change that you want to see in the UDMB.
With pride,

As I sit here trying to figure out how to write this damn thing... I remember why I’m not an English major. Where do I start? Well I’m gonna follow the advice that Julie Andrews once said in an obscure and tiny lil movie, “Let start at the very beginning, it’s a very good place to start.”
