There is potential here to create a fantastic legacy. And our ability to build and develop diverse teams as we move forward will be critical to ensuring we have the right mix of expertise, appetite for innovation and creativity of thinking to deliver the best possible outcomes we can.
TfNSW, with all agencies within the Transport cluster, has introduced a leadership-led diversity model that sets targets to contribute to the Premier’s Priority for Driving Public Sector Diversity.
Teams which are truly representative of the communities we serve should also ensure outcomes which will best serve those communities.
Flexibility was identified as a key enabler for attracting and retaining women. A Conscious Inclusion Program has been introduced to challenge perspectives on diversity and flexibility, as well as shift responses to change.
Achieving gender equity for our workforce would be a significant step toward building these teams of the future. Alongside reflecting on the many insights in this publication, it remains essential for our senior leaders to actively champion the case for continuing to increase diversity and to Sponsor the many talented women in our industry toward a more equitable workforce.
TfNSW has identified that its next phase of work will be to move beyond building awareness and desire to building the knowledge and capability of managers to make inclusive decisions for their teams.
My sincere thanks to those that invested their time in contributing to this publication. I’d also like to thank our Diversity & Inclusion Council members who continue to inspire me so that we can achieve a better future.
