In addition to the Town and APA, the New York State Department of Environmental

Conservation (DEC) pplays a major role because it is responsible for managing the ±70,000 acres

of Forest Preserve in the Town. The Forest Preserve is divided into units for management

purposes. The DEC prepares a Unit Management Plan (UMP) for each unit and invites the Town
