The Town of Newcomb’s comprehensive planning process began in the summer of 2008.

Recognizing the need to update its previous comprehensive plan, which was adopted in 1990,

the Town appointed a committee of local residents and tasked it with drafting a new plan that

would address the Town’s current issues and goals. The planning process is outline below.

The Comprehensive Plan Committee

The Newcomb Comprehensive Plan Committee met regularly
while developing the plan. The Committee consisted of 14

residents. Committee members represented a broad spectrum

of the community, ensuring a fair and balanced planning
a

process. The Committee gathered and examined information
n
from many sources. In addition to holding public meetings
a
m

interviews, and a town‐wide survey, the Committee reached

members, Essex County official and personnel, the town historian, various non‐profits, the

State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry, the New York State

Department of Envvironmental Conservation and Office of Parks Recreation and Historic

Preservation, and the Adirondack Park Agency. It was only after all the necessary information

was compiled did the Committee begin to analyze and formulate the goals and

recommendations that are outlined within this plan.
