Newcomb Historical Museum: December Updates
With the help of our volunteer, Patricia Sullivan, we are
reading, preserving, and cataloging hundreds of pages of corre-
spondence that will soon be available for visitors to read. One
set that captured our interest was some heartfelt letters from
local World War II servicemen to a former town historian, Ethel
Bissell. Although we do not have the many letters that Mrs.
Bissell wrote to each of them, it seems clear that she was trying
to keep their spirits up and informing them about what was
happening on the home front.
We now have two new researchers working with us on
articles related to Newcomb history that soon will be printed in
Adirondack Life. One is related to Eddie Quintal, probably the
last blacksmith to work for Finch. Laurinda has scanned 2,000
new photographs, and some of you may have seen the uniden-
tified gentleman from the Finch Pruyn farm.
We have some remaining space available each Monday,
Wednesday, and Thursday. As always, we are here to answer
any questions you may have or to help in any way, including
work on Ancestry.com. Our reading room has almost 300
books. Also on the shelves for easy access are copies of the Ta-
hawus Cloudsplitters, N.C.S. yearbooks, and family files A-Z.
Our hours on those three days are 9-5, and masks are required.
