The Experience Newcomb Explorer Challenge was very exciting and en-
joyable for many of my friends and me to partake in. I absolutely love the
area and every time I brought someone new with me I had to stop at the
Newcomb Visitors Center to show off that beautiful view. First, I would
like to mention that I would’ve been unable to achieve the challenge if it
wasn’t for Dave and Ruth from the Cloud-Splitter Outfitters. They were a
tremendous help with directions, encouragement and allowing us to
keep our vehicles on their property while we went off on our adventures.
I stopped there every time I was in the area and they were always so very
friendly and kind. I did have a few favorites; however, my favorite place
to visit and spend the whole day is Camp Santanoni. There was just so
much to do there I decided to return three other times after my first visit.
The Kayaking trip up the Hudson River to Campsite Bridge was a blast. I
am mad at myself for not taking a picture of the sign on the river with
one arrow pointing north to Mt. Marcy and the other pointing south to
NYC. I have already started on the Intermediate Patch. I’m in my 60s so I
believe the Extreme patch is out of my reach but you never know. I do
see my wife and I doing the Challenger in a few years. - Steve Maloney
