FROM THE NEWCOMB HISTORIAN

I would like to introduce myself to those in town who do not
know me. My name is Suzanne Mills and I have been appointed to
serve as the new Town Historian. This is a job that I am looking for-
ward to because of the vast amount of history in our area. I also
work for the Newcomb Historical Museum and have recently taken
online courses offered by SUNY Adirondack.

Although I was born and brought up at Loon Lake near Ches-
tertown, I have lived in Newcomb for 25 years, at present with my
crazy dog Tilly. Earlier I spent a few years in Germany when I was in
the military and learned that travel to new areas invaluable to under-
stand just how important home really is. My mother was Irish, served
as a radar technician for the Royal Air Force during World War II, and
married my G.I. father in England. As a result of our family heritage,
my siblings and I had the pleasure of time spent in Ireland and the
British Isles. These are beautiful places, but I have always been glad
to return to the North Country.

As Newcomb Historian, I hope to inform and entertain not
only the local population but also visitors and friends. The plan is for
a large quarterly post of some of Newcomb’s past with tidbits and
shorter articles whenever possible.
My hope is that these articles not only entertain and inform,
but also provoke additional conversations. I would love for people to
contact me with ideas, comments and information that might be
shared. If you have questions, I look forward to helping you find an-
swers.
