Editor’s Note...
We’re in the middle of summer and almost the end of the year. Finally an excuse to venture out in the
prettiest colours and to start shopping for gifts (like we promise to do earlier in the year, right?), not for-
getting that this is a season to be thankful, celebrate and spend time with family. I’ve taken on something
this year that I believe has improved my life significantly. I began jotting down things daily that I am
thankful for. Even as my busy schedule got in the way and the writing part lessened, I still focused on
those things every morning and night, making a conscious effort to reflect.
It is an honour to put together this edition with the help of the Marketing and Communications Ministry
head Mr. Kamohelo Potlaone and Ms. Zoezoe Radebe, reflecting on all the Cathedral Fellowship Initia-
tives — It is indeed another packed edition with not only a special year-end message from the Dean but
also from the Bishop of Johannesburg, the Right Revd. Dr. Steve Moreo. What an honour it is to be a part
of the #MaSisulu100 Centenary celebration as South Africa celebrates the life of a woman of prayer
(read more on page 4). In this edition, we reflect on the wonderful celebrations we’ve had through the
Cathedral Fellowship Initiatives e.g Patronal Festival, Family Day, and the Harvest Celebration Service
with special guests - the Minister in charge of Immigration and Community in the Consulate General of
Nigeria, Mr Anthony Ogbeh and his family blessing us with their presence. Families and friends of the
Cathedral came in numbers to show their gratitude in praise and thanksgiving.
QUEEN MLANGENI A big WELL DONE to the International Partnerships Ministry on its successful continuing partnership with
St Martin-in-the-Fields (read more on how the journey began on page 8), catch Revd. Dr. Sam Wells (Vicar
of St Martin’s Church, London) reflecting on their visit to South Africa. Two successful concerts were held
Communications & Stakeholder Relations Officer as part of their itenary for the visit and the St Martin’s choir got an opportunity to perform with the local
South African choir groups — the Quava Vocal Group, the Soweto Melodic Voices and the Ionian Strings
Ensemble singing “Nkosi Sikeleli ‘Afrika” (South African National Anthem) conducted by the legendary
Linda Mngoma, and also the London national anthem in a mass choir performance at the end of the
Sunday Afternoon Choral Concert, creating memorable melody (pages 11-13).
On behalf of the Marketing & Communications Ministry and the Cathedral office, we hope that you find
inspiration to celebrate the festive season with family and friends. We hope that this issue fills you with
excitement to step out and enjoy the holidays…H A P P Y R E A D I N G !
