Philippine Psychiatric Association

The past year has been quite challenging for people from all walks of life. The COVID-19 pandemic has not only threatened our physical health, but it is also putting a strain on most individuals’ mental wellbeing. We have been forewarned that mental illness is the next pandemic.
Mindful of the key role that we psychiatrists play during these unprecedented times, our theme for the 47th Annual Convention is “Psychiatry in the New Normal: An Evolving Biopsychosociospiritual Approach.” This is also our first ever virtual convention, via the Docquity app.
As the Coronavirus continues to evolve, so is our approach to its mental health consequences. This scientific congress will provide a platform to (1) discuss the most recent findings on its effect on the brain and behavior, as well as its psychopharmacological management, and drug-drug interactions of our psychotropics and common medications used in COVID patients; (2) elucidate on several psychological issues not only in our patients but among our residents in training, too; (3) focus on vulnerable and at-risk groups; and (4) reflect on various topics such as mental health stigma, the church’s role in promoting mental health, and resilience and posttraumatic growth. We will be graced by both local and international experts in the field of Psychiatry and allied health profession.
The board of directors, the organizing committee, and our corporate partners ensure the Philippine Psychiatric Association members and other stakeholders that this convention is an auspicious opportunity for learning and exchange of ideas and experiences. Our activities will culminate in a virtual fellowship night, to allow us to connect with our colleagues once again.
