Foreword

It gives me immense pleasure in writing the foreword to this
book Clinical Pearls in Cardiology written by Dr Hemanth
IK. The book is meant mainly for the medical students and
clinicians, who usually find it hard to get time to go through
numerous reference books in searching for various clinical
signs that could be present or to be looked for in a cardiac
patient. This book elaborates the most common as well as
some rare clinical signs in cardiology with simple illustrations,
graphs and tables so that the reader may find it easy to
understand. The book is presented in an interesting questions
and answers format, and the questions are framed in such
a way that the explanations provided are apt and evidence-
based. The book covers the most common cardiac disorders,
including congenital heart disease, embryology and necessary
explanations of various clinical signs in cardiology. It aims
at improving the clinical examination skills of the medical
         students.
The book details the common symptoms of the cardio-
vascular disorders, such as chest pain, shortness of breath,
palpitations, dizziness and leg swelling and provides the
pathophysiological explanations to the signs and symptoms
of heart diseases with the differential diagnoses. A thorough
reading of the book would make the student more competent
in the clinical examination of the cardiovascular system and
elicitation of the relevant clinical signs. Even though the book is
meant mainly for the undergraduate medical students, I would
not hesitate to add that it is also an invaluable quick reference
guide for the postgraduates, subspecialty candidates and the
