The ELCA Good Gifts is a mission that keeps on giving
The TLCW’s last mission for 2018 is the ELCA Good Gifts program that helps families help
themselves. There will a display in the West hallway on God’s Global Barnyard.
God’s Global Barnyard is where an animal can make a world of difference for a family in
need. An animal can provide food to eat, fertilizer to grow crops, offspring to sell at market.
ELCA Good Gifts offer many ways to honor friends and loved ones with gifts that will make
a difference in the world. If there is someone on your Christmas list that is hard to buy for,
consider a Good Gifts animal. You are able to “purchase” an ornament of your choice such
as a goat for $50. Goats provide nutritious milk for a family and/or make cheese or yogurt to
sell at the market. Or perhaps a fish farm for $250. Or maybe a pig for $30. With one gift
you can help a family escape the cycle of hunger and poverty. If you purchase an animal gift
in the name of someone, pick up a coordinating Christmas card, along with the ornament, to
let that person know the “animal” was given in their name.
Some of the gifts are more expensive, so we would encourage families to
“go together” and make a Good Gift purchase. Or another idea--- just put
in a donation in the “barnyard bank” and when the project nears the end, the
monies collected will purchase an animal. You may give your checks to
Paula Rau who will see to it that you get the amount credited to your enve-
lope # here at Trinity. The monies will be sent to the ELCA. Thanks so
much for your most generous giving!
The Women of Trinity made major decision at September General Meeting
It was a sad day when the women who attended the September General Meeting voted to “dissolve the
current structure of Trinity Lutheran Church Women (TLCW) December 31, 2018”. There were notices
in July, August, September Traveler that we needed and welcomed input, questions, ideas, or women
stepping forward to be an “officer on the Women’s Board”. So, since no one approached the Women’s
Board asking questions or giving input or ideas of how they would like to see the future of this organiza-
tion, Board recommended dissolving.
There were major concerns and discussions on how the monies in our treasury are disperse. The
Women’s Board will make recommendations on disbursements. This is not going to be easy...we all
have pet projects or missions, so there will have to be lots of compromise...!! The Board will have an
article in the November Traveler on these recommendations and set up a meeting for the women to
vote on them.
We will continue in 2018 to do everything that the women were slated to do. We will continue to pay for
the supplies used during the Sunday Fellowships, the mission ELCA Good Gifts, Thankoffering service
in November, Christmas Cookie/Candy Walk and Women’s Christmas Party in December.
