Part 1: Rules of Writing in English

In American English, they would commonly utilise the

singular verb. In British English, they would commonly utilise

the plural verb. However, in British English both of the singular

verb and plural verb are acceptable.

Have a look at the following examples:

British English American English

- My family are coming - My family is coming

tonight. tonight.

- The staff are busy. - The staff is busy.

- The team are winning. - The team is winning.

1.3.8 Vocabulary:

Some words for the same things are different in British and
American English, for example the word 'tap' is utilised in
British English, whereas the word 'faucet'' is utilised in
American English.

Sometimes words are neither specifically British nor
American, but a British or American speaker is more likely to
utilise one word than another. For example, the word 'angry' is
correct in both of British and American English. The Americans
usually utilise the word 'mad' instead of 'angry' to refer to that
strong feeling that someone has against someone else who has
behaved badly, which make the person want to yell at them or
