COLUMBIA UNIVERSITY
        STUDENT CHAPTER
The Columbia Chapter of the Academy of
General Dentistry hosted a Q&A panel for
Columbia dental students to hear from four
of their clinical restorative dentistry facul-
ty members on their experiences in gen-
eral dentistry. The panelists included Dr.
Ezzard Rolle, Dr. Susan Park, Dr. Steven
        Kresch, and Dr. Elizabeth Odinez-Bortfeld.
Students had the opportunity to ask the faculty about their decision and journey practicing general dentistry, how they feel student loans
impact practice as a young dental graduate, and what advice they have for dental students interested in general practice.

        SUNY STONY BROOK STUDENT CHAPTER
Dr. Arthur Volker visited Stony Brook University on December 7th, 2022, where he gave a fascinating presentation on modern anterior
composite techniques. Food and raffle prizes were provided to a total of 43 students in attendance, which is approximately one-quarter of
the entire student body at Stony Brook. Students listened attentively while enjoying a pasta dinner, and at the end of the presentation $15
amazon gift cards were raffled off to seven lucky winners. Dr. Volker received a small gift basket from the SBUAGD E-Board as a token
        of appreciation.
As part of the lecture, the students learned the properties of different composites and the factors that justify the use of one composite over
another. For materials such as nano-filled and microfilled composites, the ease of use, mechanical strength, longevity, and polishability
are critical properties that are considered for the appropriate type of restoration. Dr. Volker then explained the pros and cons of different
matrix systems, and showed unique methods of utilizing the matrix systems currently provided by the school. Case studies demonstrated
techniques that used simple tofflemire matrices to create beautiful chairside composite veneers. Innovative ways to use the V3 system and
Bioclear (typically indicated for posterior teeth) systems showed effortless ways they can be utilized in the anterior to create the perfect
contour and embrasure. We also learned about multiple methodologies for direct composite such as layering and injection molding. Lastly,
Dr. Volker answered many questions about private practice. We gained unique perspectives on the many options to optimize efficiency
without compromising results. This event was so exciting for not only our students, but also Dr. Volker and our AGD Chapter E-Board to
organize. We look forward to welcoming Dr. Volker back in the future!
