One of her favourite things in a commissioned
artwork is to source the right piece of vintage
paper. In this case it was the joy of finding a
vintage piece of sheet music entitled ‘Don’t
Bring Lulu’. The piece was then hand stitched,
with her favourite straight stitch in its many
forms and is found throughout her work.
Sometimes she will use Blanket, Chain, Kantha
and Lazy Daisy stitches with French and Bullion
knots with a painterly palette.
In 2004 Sian began her creative journey
gaining BA (Hons) in Applied and Media Arts at
the University of Hertfordshire. Sian also
teaches, tutors and facilitates fun creative days
at her home studio and courses by running
workshops for guilds, retreats, local charities
and community groups. She also undertakes
commissions, exhibitions and Open Studio trails
both at her home studio and further afield. As
a tutor, the student’s eagerness and the joy of
achieving something for the first time is not only
very rewarding for Sian but truly inspires her
in her own work as a practising as a fabric and
paper artist.
