From Coimbatore to Madras:

Meanwhile my PMG Sri.M.Janakiraman after visiting my
office hinted at relocation of the office to Madras. He was
not enthusiastic about keeping a Director in charge of a few
units while my colleagues in Chennai were burdened with
divisions as well as share of work thrown up by Circle
Office. So in due course I received transfer orders as
Director of Postal Services, West ,in the PMG Office,
Madras.

Before I left Coimbatore I did a good turn to
Sri.N.C.Muniapa, SPO,Nilgiri Division.Mr.Muniappa was a
straightforward officer who managed his division without
any complaint and was keen to develop the hill division in all
fronts.He was a great help in upgrading Coonoor sub office
into Head Office.He had been expressing keen desire to be
deputed to Army Postal Service.I knew Col.Chopra (later
Brig.Chopra) from my days in the directorate when both of
us were ADGs.I requested him consider Muniappa being

seconded to APS.He found some obstacle in accepting him
because of some marginal over age for the absorption.I
stressed on the sterling qualities of the officer and making an
exception in his case would only be to the advantage of the
APS.Fortunately Col.Chopra eventually made an exception
and accepted Muniappa’s enrolment in te APS.Mr.Muniappa
rose by dint of hard work to the position of full Colonel at the
time of his retirement.Had he continued in the civil
establishment he would have at the best risen as Assistant
Postmaster General.Mr.Muniappa continued to be a life long
and family friend.

As earlier mentioned I received orders transferring me to
Madras. I packed and shifted to Madras with a heavy heart at
having to leave Coimbatore a city with salubrious climate and
