Unintended harm from unintended trap :

So in another ten minutes time my wife and I were at the in-law’s
house and found no formal reception except discernible
frostiness !Though uninvited my wife and I entered their drawing
hall and were looking for a seat to sit.Some one who appeared from
her age to be the girl’s mother was rigidly staring at us and when I
voluntarily sat on a sofa in the hall I received a sharp slap on my
cheek from a totally unexpected direction.I was thrown out of my

seat and fell on the floor throwing my spectacles some distance
away.Not content with this uncalled for show of violence the same
person who slapped me went to the place where my wife was
standing and dispensed the same shower of violence on her.Later I
came to know the violent person was the younger son in the family.I
thought this was totally uncalled for as not one word was spoken by
either side except for self intoduction as we entered their flat.Then
we could not continue to sit inside as though nothing had happened
and so we came out and were undecided whether to leave abruptly
the premises.Just then another person, younger than the first , came
and mumbled some words which I could make out as expression of
some regret at the incident just witnesed.

When we enquired about the whereabouts of his sister as she was
missing since the previous night he informed they were themselves
clueless and lack of harmony in the domestic life of their sister must
have triggered this incident.We could only satisfy ourselves that the
girl herself was not in her parents’ house and left their place after
making a request to keep us informed if and when his sister returned
to their flat.

It was only after we reported the experience we had gone through we
could gain some idea that their son and his wife might have had
some controversies though I was sure their son would not have given
cause for misunderstanding. It was the girl’s mother who urged
them frequently to help her second son get an opportunity to visit his
sister’s place for better job opportunities.Ultimately the matter was
settled with no gain to both the parties.Now where do we, my wife

and myself stand, in the entire episode and qualify for becoming
victim of corporeal punishment ! The reason for the violent
