                                        Department

An article by Ken Silverstein in The New
Republic outlined the practices of clothing
manufacturers in Indonesia working with U.S.
and European companies. Ralph Lauren and
H&M make garments there because of the
                                        country’s anti-union history.

Seamstresses work for the lowest possible
wages with few rights and often in deplorable
                                        conditions. Factories are abandoned without
warning, leaving workers unpaid (wage theft),
all so that we who are seduced by a brand
name and a beautiful garment can shop at
                                        garment prices.

These photos are a testament to those
                                        practices.
