The story was a familiar one in an injury prone sport such as Track. The indoor season gave every indication that the squad had great promise, but then, the injuries started and the loss of several members hindered the squad in their outdoor dual meets.
Sprinter Steve Coker served as the backbone along with Al Green, Billy Owens and Dwight Jackson in that event. Then, an injury at the Sectional Relays sidelined

Coker for the duration. Fortunately, he was able to qualify^; for the State Meet in the long jump — the only member of • the squad to do so.
The shotput and discus were manned by Bill Snow,« Lucien Sintuzzi, and Gary O’Kipney. This group was; able to bring many needed points in several crucial meets.. Returning high jumpers Andy Nye and Gerard Garrecht fi along with triple jumper Derek McCarthy were versatile '
