JV LACROSSE: A SEASON OF LEARNING
The 1987 JV Lacrosse team, under coaches M ark Lawson and Bill Kelly, had high hopes for this season. The team showed definite promise at the start o f the season, but, they soon real ized that this was not their yearfor vic tory. Although the JV Brothers ended with a winless season, it proved to be a learning experiencefor the young team.
Due to the elimination offreshmen from the Modified Lacrosse program, the JV team took on many new talented, but inexperienced, players. The new
freshmen members were led by mid fielder Sean Ahlquist and by attackman Tony Otaviano. They both were a great help to the team and prove to be varsity
hopefuls for next year.
The JV program had its ups and
downs this season. The team was pla
gued by injury in the goal. Promising freshman goalie Matt Glover was in jured early in the season and a number o fplayers volunteered to take his place. Eventually, former attackman Tim M urray successfully filled the vacancy.
The JV team was led by the high scoring team of captains Tony Ascioti {MVP Award) and Sean Ahlquist. These high scorers were followed closely by mid fielder Tim Finney. The success of the team was exemplified not in the win/ loss column, but in the immense im provement of their skills that had oc- cured by the end o f the year. The season may have proved disappointing on the statistic sheets, but the JV Brothers made upfor their lack ofvictories in the determination, great effort, and team spirit that they displayed throughout the year.
