GERMAN CHOCOLATE CUPCAKES

               There is something so homey and at the same time so intoxicating about German
               chocolate cake done right. These cupcakes stem from that classic cake. The
               batter is enriched with sour cream and streaked with slivers of grated German’s
               sweet chocolate. On top, what else? The traditional coconut and pecan frosting.
               Tote these to the potluck and wait for the oohs and the aahs.





                     MAKES 22 TO 24 CUPCAKES (2½ INCHES EACH)
                     PREPARATION TIME: 30 MINUTES

                     BAKING TIME: 19 TO 22 MINUTES

                     ASSEMBLY TIME: 5 MINUTES




               24 paper liners for cupcake pans (2½-inch size)
               1 bar (4 ounces) German’s sweet chocolate

               1 package (18.25 ounces) plain German chocolate cake mix (see “the Cupcake
                    Doctor says”)
               1 package (3.4 ounces) vanilla instant pudding mix

               1 cup sour cream
               ½ cup water

               ½ cup vegetable oil
               4 large eggs

               Coconut Pecan Frosting (page 346)
