Sixth grade students at Cowpens Middle School
participated in a gallery walk activity as they began to
read Lois Lowry’s, The Giver. Students worked in groups
to express their ideas about a utopian society on poster
paper and then walked through the class “gallery.” They
were asked to walk silently and write down their thoughts
about other students’ ideas of a utopia.

Students in the eighth grade Leadership class at
Cowpens Middle School participated in a game
which helped them understand the difference
between collaborative and competitive
relationships.

After reading an infographic, English I
students in Christy Eubanks’ class, at
Cowpens Middle School, generated
questions and explained their
thinking. The analysis led to a lively
discussion.
