Since the industrial revolution, the
temperature of the earth has increased
rapidly due to the increase in greenhouse
gas (GHG) emissions generated by human
activities such as the burning of fossil
fuels - oil, gas and coal - and the removal
of forests . These emissions impact the
global climate balance causing ad
verse effects on the conditions for the
survival of life on the planet. It is estimated
that under the historical patterns of
greenhouse gas emissions, in the
industrial age, the average temperature of
the earth could increase between 3 ºC and
4 ºC by the end of the century, which is
greater than what we have seen in the last
10,000 years.
