                                                 FAIRY TALES

                                  ‘The Princess and the Pea’
                                                by Hans Christian Anderson

Once upon a time there was a handsome prince who was looking for a princess
to marry. He rode off on his horse to find one. He travelled for many miles and
met many beautiful, clever ladies but he never found a real princess. The prince

           was sad and lonely.

One night there was a terrible storm with lightning and thunder. Suddenly the
prince heard a knocking at the door. When he opened it there stood a beautiful,

but dripping wet girl. The prince invited her in and immediately he fell in love
with her. The girl was given a bed with lots of mattresses under which was a
pea. The next morning she told everyone that she did not sleep because there

was something hard in her bed. The prince knew that she was a real princess
because she could feel the pea in her bed.

He asked her to marry him and they lived happily ever after.
