explain those details, readers wouldn’t be focus on the texts or they would think in other things
Probably, readers would ask some question, for example, Why Helene is special for this boy?
5. Consider the diction of this essay. What effect does Gregory’s repetition of the word shame
have on you? Why do you think Gregory uses simple vocabulary to narrate this experience?
I think that Gregory repeats the word “shame” on his essay because he wants to emphasize the feeling
that he experienced in each situation. However, I disagree with the idea that the vocabulary was easy,
because it wasn't.
6. How does society still continue to use negativity to keep people down? Why do people feel the
need to point out those who have less or who are different?
Personally, I think people are accustomed to make people feel ashamed. It is because by being bad with
others, some people feel great, because they think that are better than others. So, it is a difficult problem
to solve in the society because a social class is more important than people for some human beings.
7. Describe a time when you have been made to feel insignificant? How does that experience help
you to feel empathy toward Gregory?
There is something sad for me because I don't want to remember things that make me feel bad. But,
when I was children my parents couldn’t go with me to a familiar dinner, so I was without my parents
and all my cousins were with their parents and they gave a huge to their parents because it was Christmas
dinner, and I was alone.
8. In what ways could Dick Gregory be considered an outlier?
Personally, the most important way where Gregory was considered an outlier is in that he didn't have a
daddy. In addition, he was considered different because he was poor.
