The renaming ceremony for certain Unisa buildings, including the Muckleneuk Library, took place on 21 August 2019 and the Archives mounted an exhibition in the Reading Area with a short history of the buildings being renamed as well as a biography of the persons being honoured.
Ms Ammi Ryke and Ms Ncediswa Peter organised a presentation and tour of the Unisa Archives and Special Collections in conjunction with Ms Laetitia Cassels from the University of Pretoria’s Department of Information Science on 22 May 2019 as part of a workshop on the theme of “Doing Book History and Publishing History in South Africa”. Ms Ryke and Ms Peter showcased old South African and other noteworthy material in the Unisa Archives to the attendees of the workshop.
4.2. Research support in Client Services
4.2.1. Develop relationships with academics and researchers
Personal librarians attended the College Board, Tuition & Learning, Higher Degrees, College Research and Departmental meetings to develop good relationships with researchers and academics. During 2019:
- Two author publishing workshops were held to highlight the importance of publishing in high impact journals to make it possible for research work to be cited and avoid in the publishing of predatory journals. - Relevant and customised information on myUnisa departmental websites in support of research, teaching and learning were provided. The websites have customised, subject-speci c information for all the academic departments and are updated regularly with relevant information pertaining to links to electronic resources, high impact journals, information resource budgets, information resources ordered and received, and any other library related information. Departmental websites have been developed for all academic departments. - Personal librarians assisted the academics and researchers on the creation of ORCID ID and research pro les to enhanced e-visibility.
