Chapter 3: Use and Occupancy and Types of Construction Classifications
All structures or portions of structures are required to be classified according to
their occupancy. This classification will determine, in part, how the building code
requirements will apply to the project. Spaces that will have different occupancies

at different times for different purposes must meet all of the requirements of the
multiple classifications that apply to them. More information about use and
occupancy classifications can be found in Chapter 3 of the Code.
