Use, Occupancy, and Construction
Classification Group U—Utility and Miscellaneous
Utility and miscellaneous (Group U) structures are designed and constructed
without a specific occupancy in mind and will conform to the fire and life hazard
requirements commensurate with their classification. Some examples of Group U
occupancies include:
Agricultural buildings
Aircraft hangars, accessory to a one- or two-family residence (See
Section 412.5)
Barns
Carports
Fences more than six feet (1829 mm) high
Grain silos, as accessory to a residential occupancy
Greenhouses
Livestock shelters
Private garages
Retaining walls
Sheds
Stables
Tanks
Towers

Special Requirements and Based on Use and Occupancy
Structures or areas that have uses that qualify under one of the special occupancies
listed below may have extra requirements that can be found in Chapter 4 of the
2014 Florida Building Code.
