With its rich diversity of people, the Toledo area boasts a nationally recognized zoo, a world-
class art museum, a symphony orchestra, opera, ballet and theater groups, as well as a wide
variety of neighborhood and ethnic festivals.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Director, EHS&S will be accountable for all elements of EHS&S performance and continuous
improvement across Cooper Tire and on a global basis. He or she will develop and oversee all
relevant efforts/initiatives and programs in these areas to ensure a safe, healthy, and
environmentally responsible workplace for all Cooper employees. The Director will act as the
Cooper's chief environmental and safety advocate for continuous improvement of
environmental and safety performance across all operations and, in concert with all Cooper Tire
leaders and employees, promote a safe, productive, and environmentally sound work culture
through the application of best practices and accountability.
A specific emphasis will be placed on strategies, programs, and processes impacting the
continued development of a corporate EHS&S function in addition to driving all programs and
processes for water and waste management, air quality efforts, all elements of personal and
process safety, occupational health efforts, and physical security across the company. He or
she will be expected to navigate, interact, and effectively communicate at all levels of the
organization across North America, Europe, Latin America, and Asian markets.
From an environmental programming and compliance standpoint, the Director will be
responsible for the ongoing development and implementation of environmental policies and
procedures that will ensure that the company has an effective workplace environmental
compliance program and culture in place. He or she will provide overall leadership, professional
knowledge, and expertise in the administration and support of environmental processes for
Cooper around compliance, permitting, policy development, and training.
From a health and safety standpoint, the Director will have a direct impact on the
organization’s performance toward achieving the goal of zero injuries and incidents by
providing direction and support to those at the plant-level responsible for health & safety along
with Cooper’s senior management team. The Director will provide assistance as a mentor and
advisor to Cooper plants and facilities to promote compliance with company policies, industry
standards, and governmental regulations with respect to personal and process safety matters
and serves to alert management to deficiencies.
