What is coaching?

“A coach is someone who (1) sees what others may not see through the high quality of his or her
attention or listening, (2) is in the position to step back (or invite participants to step back) from the
situation so that they have enough distance from it to get some perspective, (3) helps people see
the difference between their intentions and their thinking or actions, and (4) helps people cut
through patterns of illusion and self-deception caused by defensive thinking and behavior.
                   (Hargrove 2008)

There is an old saying that everyone needs a mentor, someone that can see the picture from
a different angle, which is objective and hold no prejudice, that is, no personal attachment
that tends to impact one's thought, decisions and therefore their actions.

The way we are attached to matters, cloud our ability to take educated decision that will
                   serve us best.

Coach, hold no prejudice and does not bring any judgment into the session, they hold no
obligation toward external parties or anyone but their clients, and therefore, it is imparitive
that the customer will fully understand the need to be completely honest so that they could
                   benefit from the process.

What is it that coach does?

“The coach’s main role deals with expanding the ability to see contexts, rather than supplying
content. The person being coached then sees new ways to utilise existing skills”.( Olalla 1998)

“What coaching does is to expand the space of possibilities that someone is—an expansion that
requires an external intervention (coaching) to take place. Coaching allows the coachee to observe
oneself as a self, to acknowledge the narrowness and limitations of that self, and to expand that
self beyond its boundaries, beyond the horizon of possibilities available to the coachee’s own
intervention”. (Rafael Echeverría, author of The Art of Ontological Coaching)

Caching is about creating an environment that promotes clarity and mindfulness, which then
attracts awareness to both self and others.

This allows better observation, which in turn support educated decision-making, where the
clients gain better understandings of its wills and desires and see how they fall into place,
and on their goals, fulfilling their dreams, arriving at the point in life which they aspire too.

There is no magic, and it is not voodoo.

“Coaching is a useful way of developing people's skills and abilities, and of boosting performance.
It can also help deal with issues and challenges before they become major problems.

A coaching session will typically take place as a conversation between the coach and the coachee
(person being coached), and it focuses on helping the coachee discover answers for themselves.
After all, people are much more likely to engage with solutions that they have come up with
themselves, rather than those that are forced upon them!
………………Most formal, professional coaching is carried out by qualified people who work with
clients to improve their effectiveness and performance and help them achieve their full potential.
Coaches can be hired by coachees, or by their organisations. Coaching on this basis works best
