TRUNK "N" TREAT New Americans had a magnificent Trunk N Treat Event
on October 21st at Kensington Church in Troy. Refugee families were
excited to see Samaritas staff and Volunteers at the event, and enjoyed
cider & donuts, pizza, candy, face painting and crafts. Children had the
opportunity to choose a costume to wear for trick or treating around
the parking lot filled with a dozen decorated Trunks. Lots of smiles and
excitement! Clients experienced firsthand how Halloween is celebrated
in the U.S. and learned about its history. Overall, we had a wonderful
time seeing our New Americans clients enjoy time with friends, family,
volunteers and Samaritas staff! Read more on how Kensington Church is
welcoming Afghan refugees and helping to empower them to be self-
sustainable in a new land at kensingtonchurch.org.

SAMARITAS TEAM PLAYERS Rodney Golpe, a software engineer at Rocket Loans, is a runner, a husband, and a very proud dad to kindergartner Jacobi. He
ran the Detroit Free Press Marathon for his 50th birthday and raised funds for Samaritas in gratitude for his son.
He said, “[My wife] Melissa and I chose Samaritas to guide us through the foster care and adoption process back in 2016. Little did we know, at the end of
that year, our baby, Jacobi, had just been born!”
“He lived with his absolutely
unbelievable foster parents – now
affectionately known to him as Nana
and Pops – until we met him in 2018
and fell completely in love. The
Samaritas team in Troy helped us
navigate every step of the way, from
home inspections and training to
"choosing" Jacobi and establishing
a schedule to transition him into our
home. We are so grateful for them!”
The Samaritas Team Ripple Effects
was sponsored by Delta Dental of
Michigan and raised a little over
$3,000.
