INTRODUCTORY SHORT COURSE IN GENOMIC AND MOLECULAR PATHOLOGY
Sydney, New South Wales
OCTOBER 2016
ANATOMICAL PATHOLOGY LABORATORY SKILLS WORKSHOP (APLS5)
Ballarat, Victoria
The four-day course convened by Dr Simon Nazaretian provided a golden opportunity
for Anatomical Pathology trainees to practice laboratory techniques and to receive expert guidance with regard to examination preparation.
SHORT COURSE IN POST MORTEM FORENSIC TOXICOLOGY
Hobart, Tasmania
Participants included trainees in pathology, laboratorians, practicing clinicians and pathologists. They discussed theory and practice covering a wide range of topics pertinent to interpretation of post mortem toxicology data. Evaluations for the course were overwhelmingly positive. Especially popular were actual cases presented with many participants suggesting that format (case work) should predominate in future courses.
Funded by the Specialist Training Program through the Department of Health, the four-day program was developed by course organisers, Prof David Ravine, Prof Ron Trent, Dr Melody Caramins, Dr Michael Buckley, Prof Sandra O’Toole, Dr Meg Wall, Dr Sebastian Van Hal and Dr Corrine Wallace. The course was a response by the College to the fast-growing reality that pathologists use molecular and genomic technologies to varying degrees. The program offered practical insights into the growing range of clinical scenarios aided by genomic or molecular testing.
