New clinical matrons
We are ge ng the most experienced nurses back at the bedside, becoming the  rst trust in the country to introduce the role of clinical matron.
Over 40 senior nurses have been recruited to take on the role across our three hospitals with each of them being responsible for the running
of an individual ward and spending most of their  me working clinically.
Celebra ng sta 
A group of nurses from the Philippines have now started working as registered nurses at our Trust a er passing a tough exam to achieve fully quali ed status in the UK.

One of the successful candidates was Jethri Catalan,
who had achieved a Masters in Adult Health back in the Philippines and is now looking forward to embarking on a career in cri cal care with us.
“Nursing is not di erent in the UK,” he said. “It’s s ll about caring for pa ents, but the culture of nursing isn’t quite the same and we have had some new techniques to learn.
“I have secured a job in the intensive treatment unit at Royal Hampshire County Hospital and I’m looking forward to a career in cri cal care, which is what I enjoy most.”
Gradua on Ceremony
A group of 30 nurses and midwives, who carried out their
training at Hampshire Hospitals have recently graduated from students to quali ed sta . 28 of the graduates now work at one of our hospitals.
Donna Green, Hampshire Hospitals’ chief nurse, spoke of her pride at seeing the students become fully quali ed.
“This is a lovely occasion and I am a very proud chief nurse tonight,” she said. “As your training hospital, we want to be the  rst to congratulate and celebrate with you. This is just the beginning of an exci ng journey and we wish you well in a long, happy and rewarding career.”

Trust launches Home Care Support Team
We have introduced a dedicated team to help people close to the end of their life stay out of hospital and get back to their own homes as quickly as possible.
Members of the Home Care Support Team, who are helping pa ents close to the end of their life remain at home for longer
The 12-strong Home Care Support
Team, covers Winchester, Andover, Chandlers Ford and Eastleigh and assist pa ents in the  nal weeks of their lives. The team are trained in end of life care and help with washing and taking meals to pa ents. The GP and community nursing team remain responsible for the pa ents’ medical needs.
New forms of treatment for prostate cancer now available at our hospitals
We have become one of only three NHS trusts in the country to o er two forms of non-invasive treatment for prostate cancer.
The urology department at Basingstoke hospital was brought the equipment, which cost £194,000, by the North Hampshire Medical Fund, to carry out both high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) and cryoabla on treatments.
